Specialists from the "Svarog" Research and Production Center spoke about the correct application of low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) in drone receiver paths. The company noted that many myths have formed around these devices, leading to incorrect use of the equipment.
According to experts, the main function of an LNA is to amplify a weak signal at the receiver input before it enters the cable and the rest of the circuit. Every meter of cable and every connector introduces losses, and installing an amplifier before the cable allows these losses to be compensated at the reception stage.
The "Svarog" NPC emphasized that the most common user mistake is installing the LNA after a long cable. The correct scheme involves the sequence: antenna → LNA → cable → receiver. If the amplifier is installed after the cable — antenna → cable → LNA → receiver — the point of its use is lost, since the noise is amplified along with the signal.
The center's specialists also listed the tasks that an LNA does not solve. The device does not compensate for the shortcomings of a bad or damaged antenna, does not replace the transmitter's power amplifier, and does not eliminate interference — it only amplifies what enters the input. The NPC recommended that users carefully choose the LNA installation location and check the antenna's condition before installing the amplifier.
