Queues for LPG installation: expensive gasoline forced drivers to switch to gas

Gas equipment installation pays off with a daily mileage of 100 km or more

With AI-95 gasoline priced at 73 rubles per liter and gas slightly above 30 rubles, motorists are lining up at gas equipment installation specialists, Kommersant reports. Demand is comparable only to the boom of the 2000s, and appointments for installation are stretched for two to three weeks.

In all my twenty years of practice, such demand was only in the 2000s. We simply cannot keep up with incoming calls.

Quality equipment will cost at least 45 thousand rubles, but amidst the excitement, distributors are already raising prices. At the same time, fuel costs are almost halved: a liter of propane at Moscow gas stations costs on average slightly more than 30 rubles, while AI-92 is 66 rubles, and AI-95 is 73 rubles.

Dmitry Begun, an automotive expert interviewed by "Moskovskaya Gazeta", gives different figures – from 120 to 170 thousand rubles for installation – and warns that gas dries out cylinders, and savings become noticeable only with a daily mileage of over 100 km.

The gas transition is not suitable for everyone. Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of "Za Rulem" magazine, warned that direct injection engines poorly tolerate propane without factory preparation, and the installation itself requires registration with the GIBDD and regular inspections. In addition, exchange prices for propane-butane soared by 30% in a week amid unscheduled refinery repairs.
