Cyber-range for AI Development Proposed in Chelyabinsk

Digital infrastructure could be located at the "Yuzhny Ural" interuniversity campus

A specialized cyber-range (virtual training platform) for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) needs to be created in the Chelyabinsk region. This was stated by Alexander Wagner, Rector of South Ural State University (SUSU).

According to Wagner, educational programs alone are not enough for a breakthrough in AI technologies. A large-scale increase in competencies is important, he emphasized.

We need to work on creating a cyber-range based on the world-class interuniversity campus "Yuzhny Ural" currently under construction.

Several industrial partners of the university are interested in implementing this project, the rector added.

Advanced digital infrastructure will also become a growth point for this direction, Wagner noted. A collective-use data processing center (DPC) can be organized on the campus. The data center will provide the necessary computing power for AI research, he concluded.

The "Yuzhny Ural" interuniversity campus will open in 2027. It will be designed for 5,000 students from seven universities in the region. Modern laboratories with advanced equipment will be established here. The project for creating educational infrastructure is being implemented in a public-private partnership format.
