A park of androids and robot dogs will appear at the new AI faculty at Moscow State University

"Clean rooms" with lasers will be equipped for cross-disciplinary projects

The new Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at Lomonosov Moscow State University is forming its own robotics fleet. Students and researchers will have access to robot dogs, androids, and drones, Anton Konushin, Deputy Dean for Research, told TASS.

The faculty, opened in 2025 with the support of the Volnoe delo foundation, is being equipped with specialized laboratories. The building already has "clean rooms" outfitted for work with laser systems at the intersection of physics and machine learning.

The first intake of students for bachelor's and master's programs is scheduled for 2026. MSU Rector Viktor Sadovnichiy previously noted that the structure will unite the AI Institute and the Research Center into a single ecosystem.

The presence of a physical fleet of machines fundamentally distinguishes the faculty from purely algorithmic schools. Students will train neural networks to control walking platforms and service robots not in simulations, but on real "hardware." This sharply reduces the gap between academic training and industry demands, where there is an acute shortage of engineers who understand the kinematics and dynamics of robotic systems.
