MTS Deploys 600 Free Wi-Fi Hotspots in Central Moscow for Subscribers of All Operators

Proprietary Fiber Optic Network and Communication Poles Enabled a Twofold Increase in the Number of Sources

MTS has doubled the number of public Wi-Fi hotspots within the Third Ring Road – there are now about 600 of them. As reported by the company, the MTS_WiFi_Free network is deployed on its own supports, communication poles, and transport fiber optics, which provides high-speed access for subscribers of all mobile operators.

The twofold increase in May was made possible precisely by using existing infrastructure without involving additional contractors. Each point is powered by a fiber optic backbone, and the coverage area is concentrated in the city center, where traffic is maximal.

Authorization is carried out through a single MTS ID account linked to a phone number. After confirmation, the device automatically connects to all network points within a month – re-entering data is not required. This is the first urban network of such a scale in Russia, built entirely on the infrastructure of one operator and open to users of all networks.
