Prolonged communication with artificial intelligence (AI) as a "close friend" can lead to a decrease in human emotionality. This was stated by Pavel Khoroshikh, an employee of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Medical Complex of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU).

Neural networks are always online, ready to maintain a dialogue and answer any question, the psychologist noted. However, they cannot convey their own emotions, he emphasized.

Therefore, prolonged communication with such systems can become one of the reasons for a person's "desensitization"; there is an "atrophy" of the skill of expressing emotions.

According to Khoroshikh, parasocial relationships are observed when communicating with AI. This is a one-sided emotional connection in which there is an illusion of reciprocity, but without any risks. Previously, this was called the "Eliza effect" (named after a computer program that simulates human communication).

The psychologist urged to pay attention to loved ones who are having dialogues with neural networks. The reason for such behavior may be an unfulfilled need to be heard and understood. To help overcome this crisis, live communication is needed, he concluded.
