The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned of a new fraud scheme. Scammers created a fake website, allegedly associated with Roskomnadzor, and used it to convince people of the legitimacy of their calls. Victims might have been offered to visit the resource and "verify employee data," although the website was fake. The scheme was reported by the Department for Organizing the Fight Against Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the attackers registered the domain RKN24.RU and designed it as an information resource associated with Roskomnadzor. The website featured reference materials, a feedback form, and even a catalog of alleged agency employees.
Neat but identical portraits, official numbers, and biographies were intended to inspire trust when attackers offered victims to verify "employee" data on the website, explained the UBK Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
