Import Substitution in Action: Electronics Production in Moscow Grew by 17.9%, and Piezoelectric Devices by 3.5 Times

Moscow enterprises are increasing the production of printed circuit boards, integrated circuits, and semiconductors

Moscow's radio-electronic industry enterprises have increased the production of high-tech products. From January to April 2026, companies produced 17.9% more products than in the same period of 2025, according to the Moscow Department of Investment and Industrial Policy.

More than 850 specialized enterprises are concentrated in Moscow. According to the department, the production of piezoelectric devices and their parts increased by 3.5 times, electronic integrated circuits by 32.5%, semiconductor devices and their parts by 9.7%, and assembled printed circuit boards by 7.8%.

One example is the Zelenograd scientific and technical center "Elins". In cooperation with the Priorov National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics, the enterprise is developing a prototype of an orthopedic biosensor. The device will help reduce the risk of severe infectious complications after operations, shorten the rehabilitation period, and improve patients' quality of life.

Vasily Tikmenov, General Director of NTC "Elins", noted that the integration of microelectronics into biocompatible structures for long-term presence inside the body is one of the most promising areas in medicine. The development will lay the foundation for a whole line of import-substituting "smart" implants.
