A precise replica of a lunar settlement proposed for construction in Baikonur

The city near the cosmodrome aims to develop tourism

In Baikonur, a precise replica of a lunar settlement could be built, and young specialists could be housed there as part of an "isolation experiment". This opinion was expressed by the head of the city administration, Konstantin Busigin.

I have long suggested to Roscosmos to create a lunar commune, but on Earth. This would be a boost for space and could increase tourist flow to the city tenfold.
Konstantin Busigin, Head of Baikonur Administration

According to Busigin, Russia should develop space tourism. This direction would help attract young specialists to the rocket and space industry.

Baikonur is located 45 km from the cosmodrome of the same name in the Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan. The entire complex, including the city, is leased by Russia until 2050.

In April 2026, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, announced that the construction of a station on the Moon would begin in 2033. Specialists will scan Earth's satellite in 2028.

Later, the "Selena" NPP with a capacity of at least 5 kW will appear there. Employees of the Kurchatov Institute are also working on the nuclear power plant project.
