BAZ increases wheels: "Romanov" announced 8x8 truck by year-end

A unified platform will allow for a ten-axle version

The truck manufacturer BAZ – the company "Romanov" – is developing an all-wheel-drive vehicle with eight driving wheels. As CEO Dmitry Grechukhin told TASS at the COMvex 2026 exhibition, the first 8x8 prototype is planned to be assembled by the end of this year, and its certification will begin next year.

The expansion of the product line became possible due to universal axles of their own design. According to Grechukhin, due to their uniformity, increasing the wheel formula to 8x8 or even 10x10 "does not present any particular difficulty." A 4x4 version is being developed in parallel. Serial production of the basic 6x6 model started at the end of 2025 at a site in St. Petersburg, where Scania and MAN were previously assembled.

Thus, BAZ is effectively building a modular conveyor capable of filling the niche from light all-terrain vehicles to super-heavy chassis. For the market, this means the emergence of a single domestic platform instead of disparate European counterparts – from the "big seven" (Mercedes, Volvo, Scania, MAN, DAF, Iveco, Renault Trucks), which left Russia.
