Scientists Announce Unexpected Forecast for Magnetic Storms Until End of May

Despite powerful solar flares, the geomagnetic situation on Earth remains calm for now

After a series of flares and plasma ejections on the Sun, many have once again become concerned about possible magnetic storms. The forecast for the geomagnetic situation on Earth until the end of May was announced by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS.

According to scientists, activity on the side of the Sun visible from Earth remains low. A large active center, several hundred thousand kilometers in size, which the Solar Orbiter spacecraft detected two weeks ago, has almost disintegrated.

Now, only two small sunspots remain from it. Experts believe that they no longer have a significant energy reserve.

At the same time, activity on the far side of the Sun still remains high. Over the past two weeks, four top-class flares have occurred there. However, due to their location, they do not yet affect Earth.
