The second pilot of the two-seat fifth-generation Su-57D fighter will be able to command an air group directly in the air thousands of kilometers from the base. This was stated by Sergey Bogdan, chief pilot of the Sukhoi Design Bureau and test pilot.
According to him, the presence of an experienced commander in the crew will allow for more effective action in conditions of radio interference.
I am convinced that in some combat formations it is absolutely necessary to have a leader in the group who can make decisions directly in the air.
Rostec stated that the two-seat Su-57 can be used to organize and manage combat operations of a combined group of combat aircraft.
Also, the second crew member on the Su-57D will significantly simplify interaction with unmanned wingmen, including the heavy S-70 "Okhotnik" drone.
