New hangars for the Russian Aerospace Forces' strategic aviation have presumably begun construction on the territory of the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield in Zhukovsky. The facilities were captured during the first flight test of the Su-57D. This assumption was made by analysts of the "Osvedomitel" Telegram channel.
Several large structures resembling protected aircraft shelters are visible in the footage. According to preliminary estimates, they may be intended for the accommodation, maintenance, and preparation of long-range aircraft. The official purpose of the facilities has not yet been disclosed.
Interest in the construction has increased amid ongoing measures to enhance the protection of Russian military aviation. In recent years, particular attention has been paid to creating infrastructure capable of reducing the vulnerability of aircraft at airfields and ensuring safer storage of equipment.
The Gromov LII airfield itself remains one of the key sites of the Russian aviation industry. New aircraft models are regularly tested here, as well as the development of promising solutions for combat and special aviation. The appearance of new structures on the facility's territory may indicate a further expansion of its capabilities.
