First Photo of New Su-57D Appears Online

Fightbomber: Prototype has already begun taxiing tests

The Telegram channel Fightbomber published a photo of the prototype of the two-seat variant of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter, designated Su-57D. The prototype was converted from the single-seat T-50-4 (tail number 054). According to available data, on May 16, 2026, the aircraft began taxiing tests.

What is known about the Su-57D

The two-seat Su-57 is presumably being created primarily for training purposes. The "sparka" (two-seater) will allow pilots to be trained to operate the fifth-generation fighter without the risks associated with single-pilot mastery of a complex machine. In addition, the two-seat version may be aimed at export markets – potential customers often prefer to have the ability to train pilots directly on a combat aircraft.

Judging by the published photo, the two-seat variant externally differs with an enlarged fuselage cockpit. Official information on the technical characteristics of the Su-57D has not yet been released. It is expected that after the completion of taxiing tests, the aircraft will proceed to flight tests.

Earlier it was reported that Russia is negotiating with several countries on the supply of Su-57, and the availability of a combat training version could be an additional argument in concluding contracts. The Su-57D can also be used to practice new tactical techniques and test weapons with the participation of a second crew member.
