Nuclear torpedo "Poseidon" and "Burevestnik" missile reach final testing stage

New Russian weapons have a distant Soviet past

Work on the "Poseidon" nuclear underwater complex and the "Burevestnik" missile is in its final stages. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Work on two complexes with small nuclear propulsion systems is in its final stages — and these are the unique unmanned underwater vehicle "Poseidon" and the unique global-range cruise missile "Burevestnik".
Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

Recall that at the end of October 2025, Putin announced the completion of tests of the "Burevestnik" with a nuclear power plant. During its first launch, the missile covered 14 thousand km, and it has no analogues in the world.

A few days later, the head of state also announced the successful tests of the "Poseidon" with the ability to carry nuclear warheads.

Mikhail Kovalchuk, head of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, noted that the creation of "Burevestnik" and "Poseidon" was the result of research by domestic scientists, which began in the late 1940s.
