Senator Ayrat Gibatdinov proposed developing a mechanism for automatic suspension of SMS mailings to a number when atypical activity is detected. This refers to situations when dozens and hundreds of requests from different services arrive on the phone simultaneously.
"SMS bombing" is the mass sending of a large number of messages to a specific person's number. The goal of attackers is to cause panic and force quick and rash actions. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that this is not just hooliganism, but part of fraudulent schemes and a targeted cyberattack.
According to the senator, telecommunications operators, together with relevant departments, should begin joint work to counter such attacks.
He believes that automatic stopping of mailings at the moment of anomalous activity will destroy the very scenario of pressure on a person.
In addition, according to him, operators and digital platforms must implement mandatory anti-fraud filters.
The senator also noted that the "Gosuslugi" service could be involved in protection. In the event of an attack, an algorithm using artificial intelligence could automatically restrict the possibility of financial transactions, which would reduce the likelihood of fraud.
