The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has recorded a mass distribution of the Mamont virus, spread via SMS messages with suspicious links.
The fraudsters send .apk files (installation files for Android) to the victims, disguising them as photos or videos, allegedly with an image of the recipient. The messages are accompanied by phrases like: «Is that you in the video?» or «Look, that's you in the photo!».
Opening such messages can lead to device infection, data leakage, and loss of access to accounts.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends ignoring such SMS messages and in no case downloading attachments, even if the message came from a familiar number.
