Mine rescuers are searching in unstable rock conditions

A rockslide occurred at the Kadykchansky coal mine in Susuman Urban District, Magadan Oblast. According to preliminary data, up to eight people may be trapped under the rubble. The information was confirmed by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, which received a report about the emergency on the morning of April 30.

Fire crews, mine rescue teams, and ambulance brigades have already been dispatched to the incident site. A Mi-8 helicopter is prepared for departure to quickly deliver specialists and equipment. Rescue operations are being conducted in conditions of difficult terrain and unstable geological conditions.

The Kadykchansky coal mine is an active open-pit coal mining facility. The causes of the collapse have not yet been named: specialists are beginning to examine the emergency zone and assess the stability of the surrounding rocks. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident will be handled by representatives of Rostekhnadzor and relevant departments.

The rockslide paralyzed operations at the open-pit mining section. Preliminary assessment indicates a localized collapse of the quarry wall or dump. The exact coordinates and scale of the damage are being clarified based on aerial reconnaissance data.
