New ultra-strong rails, capable of withstanding up to 200 million tons of cargo, to be laid in Zabaykalye

The material is designed for heavy-duty mainlines with record traffic intensity

Deliveries of new profile rails, designed for extremely high loads, have begun to the key direction of the Russian railway network – the Eastern Polygon. The first pilot industrial batch includes 570 tons of 100-meter R71 brand rails, developed and produced at the EVRAZ ZSMK enterprise. This is a new type of product created specifically for sections with intensive heavy-duty traffic.

The rails are intended for lines with a freight intensity of 80 to 200 million gross tons per kilometer per year. This level of load is typical for the country's busiest railway routes, primarily in the direction of eastern ports and industrial regions.

The use of the new profile should increase the stability of the track superstructure, extend the service life of the infrastructure, and reduce repair and maintenance costs for high-load sections.

The first batch is planned to be laid on the Zabaykalskaya Railway, which is one of the key links of the Eastern Polygon and is experiencing a significant increase in cargo traffic. Thus, we are talking about transitioning to a stronger and more durable rail base, designed for new scales of transportation.
