Transport in Russia to be equipped with chips from Element Group

New microcontroller for control, navigation, and telematics to be supplied in Q4 2026

The Russian transport industry may receive new domestic chips. Element Group is preparing to supply a microcontroller that was developed for an industrial customer and is intended for use in electronic units for transport – from engine control to navigation and telematics.

According to "Vedomosti", the Research Institute of Electronic Technology, part of Element Group, plans to start supplying the new microcontroller in Q4 2026. The company did not disclose the customer but specified that it is a large Russian developer and supplier of electronic units for the transport industry.

Currently, the microchips are undergoing a series of tests as part of the equipment at the customer's facility. This is an important stage: the chip is not tested separately, but already within the real electronic systems where it is supposed to operate.

The new microcontroller is a compact modification of the company's existing 32-bit microcontroller. It is based on the RISC-V architecture, an open instruction set standard that allows for the creation of processor solutions and reduces the need for proprietary foreign platforms.

Such microcontrollers can be used in transport electronics for engine control, navigation, and telematics. This refers to components responsible for the operation of key vehicle systems and data transmission.
