Russians have been warned about possible aurora borealis on the evening of April 25 – models have recorded weak geomagnetic activity that may manifest itself today. This was reported by the laboratory of solar astronomy of IKI RAS.
Scientists explained that such evening geomagnetic disturbances provide a chance to see a glow in the sky. The aurora borealis occurs in the upper atmosphere when charged particles of the solar wind interact with the Earth's magnetic field. Even weak activity can increase the likelihood of its appearance, especially if it is associated with plasma ejections from the Sun.

Earlier, two X-class flares occurred on the Sun, each accompanied by large plasma ejections, clearly visible in images from space telescopes.
However, the explosions themselves occurred at the edge of the solar disk – at an angle of more than 60 degrees to the direction of the Earth, and it was visible that the plasma was moving away. Therefore, it was initially assumed that the impact on Earth would be minimal.
