Il-96 and Tu-204 May Become "Donors by the Fence"

The problem of the domestic aircraft industry lies in the shortage of engine manufacturing plants, engineering and design schools, and competent managers. Without restoring the production chain, any novelty is doomed to become a "donor by the fence," warned Honored Pilot Yuri Sytnik.

According to him, this is already happening with some Tu-204 and Il-96 aircraft.

Donors are dismantled to the ground. And they are unlikely to ever take to the air. That is, we produce and put them by the fence.

Sytnik emphasized that there is no one in the country to even restore the "corncobs" now. To revive agricultural aviation and local airline aircraft, it is necessary to build up to five new enterprises to meet the need for 12.5 thousand such machines, the Honored Pilot concluded.

Earlier, the developer of the famous biplanes, SibNIA named after Chaplygin, proposed to restore the airworthiness of up to 700 An-2s stored by private owners.

The project provides for modernization — replacing the ASH-62IR engine and updating instruments and the cabin. The cost of restoring one aircraft is estimated at 17–25 million rubles, the entire fleet — up to 21 billion.
