Crews of the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), supported by mobile fire groups, struck at the location of a mock enemy. The maneuvers took place at one of the training grounds of the Moscow Military District (MMD).
The press service of the district explained that the soldiers included in the mobile fire groups covered the MLRS in the face of a threat from drones.
Particular attention was paid to preparing to strike using a remote control panel.
The Tornado-S crew performed live firing exercises (launching ammunition without a warhead). These activities contribute to maintaining a high professional level of the MLRS, the press service of the district summarized.
MLRS Tornado-S
The Tornado-S MLRS line is being developed by Tula engineers from NPO Splav. The new artillery guns will replace the Grad and Smerch MLRS in the units of the Russian Armed Forces.
The Tornado-S has been in operation since 2014. In total, more than 200 units of various modifications of the MLRS have been produced.
Unguided rockets from the Smerch ammunition set, as well as guided rockets of the 9M542, 9M544, 9M549 series, are suitable for this system. Their range is about 120 km.
