A concept of a wide-body long-range aircraft in a cargo version was presented at the Russian Venture Forum in Kazan. The project received the designation SHFDMS and involves the use of two promising PD-38 engines.
The main idea is to create a new generation heavy transporter capable of replacing obsolete Soviet machines and competing in the large cargo transportation segment.
However, at the moment, neither the aircraft nor the engine exists in finished form. The development is at the stage of a deep preliminary design.
PD-38 is considered as a development of the PD-35 line, which is being worked on by the Perm enterprise "UEC-Aviadvigatel". Currently, technology demonstrators are being created, including composite fan elements.
It should be noted that such systems require many years of development and significant investment in R&D. Even in the most optimistic scenario, the path from concept to first flight can take more than ten years.
