Chinese VT-4 Tanks to Serve Alongside Russian T-90s for the First Time

Algeria Updates Its Fleet of Combat Vehicles in Addition to Domestic Armored Vehicles

Algeria plans to strengthen its tank fleet with Chinese VT-4, despite already having Russian T-90SA tanks. Combat vehicles in an unusual green and desert camouflage were spotted on the territory of the Norinco corporation's plant.

The tank modifications could have been made after testing in Algeria. The African republic is considering replacing the outdated T-55 and T-62 with modern equipment. At the same time, Russian T-90SA and modernized T-72s are already in service.

If the contract is confirmed, Algeria will become one of the countries where modern tanks from Russia and China are used simultaneously, forming a mixed fleet of armored vehicles.

As a reminder, Algeria has about 508–540 advanced Russian T-90SA tanks with the «Shtora-1» optoelectronic countermeasures system. Algeria is the second largest operator of this type of tank in the world after India.

Cooperation between Russia and Algeria is not limited to tanks. Recently, footage of the flight of the latest Su-57 fighters in the republic went viral, although there is no official information about deliveries yet.
