The new 2TE35A-004 freight diesel locomotive has arrived at the VNIIZhT experimental ring for testing. The locomotive, created by specialists from the Lyudinovo Locomotive Plant, which is part of the Sinara-Transport Machines holding, is a two-section machine with an asynchronous traction drive.
A key feature of the 2TE35A design is the use of a new high-speed diesel engine paired with an asynchronous traction drive. This technical solution makes it possible to realize a tractive effort sufficient to allow unified freight trains weighing 7,100 tons to pass through the Baikal-Amur Mainline without increasing the number of sections. This is especially important for increasing the capacity of the Eastern Operating Domain.
The 2TE35A diesel locomotive was first presented to the public in August last year at the "PRO//Motion.EXPO" exhibition site in St. Petersburg. Since then, the machine has been prepared for certification tests, which have now started at VNIIZhT.
The experimental ring in Shcherbinka is a specialized site for testing new locomotives before they are allowed to operate. Based on the results of the 2TE35A-004 tests, a decision will be made on the possibility of mass production and sending locomotives to work in areas with increased requirements for traction characteristics.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant is launching a new locomotive painting technology.
