Dome for Autonomous Living on Mars to be Presented in Moscow

The project will involve schoolchildren who will create a complete environment for survival on an improvised Red Planet

Schoolchildren will be able to try themselves as participants in a Martian expedition. Moscow will host the first space games, where teenagers will be offered not just competitions, but a full-fledged model of life on another planet. The first space games "Mars-2045", organized by the Higher School of Economics and the Skolka school, will be held in the capital from April 10 to 12.

The main element will be the demonstration of a special dome that simulates an autonomous settlement on another planet.

Dmitry Zemtsov, Vice-Rector of the Higher School of Economics, explained that the project provides participants with the opportunity to experience conditions that are as close as possible to the real conditions of a mission to Mars. The tasks are developed taking into account real requirements and challenges.

The dome will be presented to the public for the first time at the games. In the future, such installations are planned to be used as a basis for international space competitions with the participation of student teams from different countries.

At Skolka, participants will not only test the format of future games, but will also be the first to test this high-tech complex in real conditions.

Schoolchildren in grades 8-11 will take part in the competitions. They will have to work in teams and create a sustainable environment for life. Participants will provide energy supply, maintain oxygen balance, purify water, control robots and restore communication.

The culmination will be an "expedition" to an autonomous dome. Inside there will be a crew of six people who will have to act in emergency situations.

They will need to launch solar panels, configure the power system, activate a hydroponic farm and photobioreactor, and restore the operation of the base's AI systems.
