Communication from Orbit to Expand: Express-AMU4 Launch Expected by 2028

The satellite will operate in geostationary orbit for about 15 years

One of Russia's key communication satellites, Express-AMU4, will enter orbit later than planned — its readiness is now expected by 2028. The lifespan of the device will be about 15 years.

The shift in deadlines is due to problems in the supply and quality of some equipment. The project had to be readjusted, but work continues: more than 80% of the space platform components and about 63% of the payload have already been delivered.

At the same time, development is not standing still — a number of technologies created for Express-AMU4 have already begun to be used in other projects. Control over cooperation has also been strengthened to minimize risks in the future.

The satellite will operate in geostationary orbit and provide television broadcasting, radio communications, and broadband internet. Its coverage area will include not only Russia, but also Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and part of Europe.

The location point is at eleven degrees west longitude. This allows for effective coverage of several regions at once.

Assembly of the device began in the fall of 2024, and the project is now gradually approaching the final stage.
