Computer games want to be added to the list of self-bans in the State Duma

Deputy Chairman of the Control Committee Dmitry Gusev believes that for many, gaming has become a form of addiction

The State Duma proposed expanding the system of self-bans to computer games. This initiative was put forward by the first Deputy Chairman of the Control Committee, Dmitry Gusev. In his opinion, the mechanism, which already works with loans and will start operating for gambling from September 1, 2026, should be extended to a new area.

Today, computer games are becoming one of the serious problems. For many, this is already a form of addiction that is difficult to cope with on their own. Therefore, it is worth considering the possibility of introducing a self-ban in this area as well.

Gusev positively assessed the idea of expanding the system as a whole. If a person cannot independently give up what destroys him — whether it is gambling, alcohol, or other addictions — the state should give him a tool to protect himself: self-ban is just such a mechanism, the deputy believes.

Currently, a self-ban on loans is in effect in Russia, and from the autumn of 2026, a similar mechanism for gambling will be launched. The possibility of introducing a self-ban on computer games is still under discussion.
