MAZ-UTTZ Trolleybus with Autonomous Drive Enters the Market: First Production Model Released in Ufa

The vehicle is equipped with a dynamic charging system and energy storage devices, allowing it to move without a contact network for up to 30 km

The first production trolleybus jointly produced by "MAZ-UTTZ" has been released in Ufa and has already entered the market. According to the government of Bashkortostan, deliveries of the equipment will begin in 2026. The project is being implemented at the "Alga" special economic zone as part of the Russian-Belarusian investment cluster. A roadmap has been signed, defining the stages of production localization.

Technical Features of the MAZ-UTTZ Trolleybus

The trolleybus is built on a Minsk Automobile Plant chassis with a low-floor design, providing convenient entry for all groups of passengers. The power plant uses an asynchronous traction motor with a microprocessor control system manufactured by UTTZ.

The vehicle is equipped with lithium-titanate energy storage devices that allow it to:

  • move without a contact network for up to 30 km;
  • charge both from the standard contact network and in dynamic charging mode (on short wireless sections);
  • recuperate braking energy with return to storage devices or the contact network.

Key units to be localized:

  • power electrical equipment (traction inverter, control unit);
  • energy storage system;
  • body and interior elements.

Passenger capacity — up to 85 people, the cabin is equipped with climate control, USB charging and a video surveillance system.

Production plans

The joint venture "Territory of Development of Electric Transport "MAZ-UTTZ" was established in 2025. The Ufa Tram and Trolleybus Plant has more than ten years of experience in the production of electric transport, and the Minsk Automobile Plant provides the chassis and aggregate base. Residency in the "Alga" SEZ will provide tax benefits and accelerate the commissioning of capacities. The first production vehicles will be delivered to the regions as part of federal passenger transport renewal programs. Further cooperation involves expanding the range: articulated trolleybuses and electric buses based on a unified chassis.
