The emergency contract was signed after the Russian gas carrier lost control and began to drift towards the coastline. The Libyan authorities responded promptly to the threat: specialists assessed the risks of water pollution and began developing a plan to minimize environmental damage.

The Russian gas carrier is planned to be towed to a protected harbor after all details have been agreed with the Libyan Ports Authority. The operation will require precise calculation: it is necessary to take into account the current state of the hull, weather conditions and the presence of fuel residues on board. The National Oil Corporation stressed that all actions are aimed at protecting the coastline and preventing possible incidents.
