Netflix Wants to Return? Rospatent Receives Trademark Application

The company is registering the brand to maintain control over the name in Russia

The American streaming giant Netflix has filed an application to register its trademark in Russia. The documents were submitted to Rospatent on March 23, 2026 — the initiator was Netflix, Inc.

It's not just about the name: the brand wants to secure itself in several areas at once — from applications and online services to the production and promotion of films and other content. This is standard practice for large platforms that protect their name and products even in markets where they are not currently operating.

As a reminder, Netflix officially left Russia in 2022. However, the trademark registration may indicate a desire to maintain control over the brand — so that no one uses it without permission and profits from someone else's name.
