At the TransRussia 2026 exhibition, Irina Olkhovskaya, CEO of United Wagon Company (UWC), announced the start of serial production of the 12-6744 open wagon model with an axle load of 25 tf. The payload capacity of the new product is 77 tons, the body volume is 94 m³, and the tare weight is 22.5 tons (2 tons less than the previous generation of innovative wagons).
A train of new open wagons carries 550 tons more than typical counterparts and 140 tons more than wagons of the previous generation. The required fleet is reduced by 10%. The tariff savings when transporting coal are up to 14.1 million rubles compared to a typical open wagon.
In the new development, we used a unique technological solution. In the production of individual elements, high-strength steel metal is used. Steel with these characteristics has not been used in the production of rolling stock before
High-strength steel, previously not used in wagon construction, was used for the first time in the production of body elements. The overhaul mileage is 800 thousand km (8 years) with a total service life of 32 years.
The model is adapted for heavy traffic, does not create additional load on the infrastructure and is compatible with any loading and unloading equipment. Trains follow without auxiliary technological processing, which is critical for directions with limited throughput capacity - the Eastern Polygon, approaches to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin and the western branch of the North-South corridor.
The use of high-strength steel made it possible to simultaneously reduce the tare weight by 2 tons and increase the payload capacity to 77 tons - a rare combination for rolling stock with an axle load of 25 tf.
New open wagons increase the carrying capacity of limiting sections without capital investments in infrastructure. Reducing the required fleet by 10% and reducing the cost of transportation provide a direct economic effect for coal miners, metallurgists and builders.
