The project for an extended version of the Niva Travel, known as Niva Travel Long or RGM, is likely to remain on paper. This forecast was made by a former auto plant engineer, blogger KhaDm.
According to him, the project has been frozen and unfrozen several times over the past year, but there is practically no chance of the model being released into production. The main reason is the high cost of implementation. To release the extended "Niva", engineers would have to transfer the 30-year-old design to a new electronic architecture (like the Lada Vesta), seriously rework the body, and completely update the interior and exterior. In terms of financial costs, this is comparable to developing a completely new model.
Personally, I am 99% sure that we will never see the Niva Travel Long again, but we may wait for the interior update on the Niva Travel, but this will be, even in the best case scenario, only in 2029.
The only thing that can still be saved is the updated interior, which was developed for the extended version. In the most optimistic scenario, it may appear on the current Niva Travel, but not before 2029. At the same time, the RGM project has been suspended indefinitely.
