Scammers in Russia have developed a new scheme to deceive marketplace users. They are offered specialized goods at a low price, the MTS Zashchitnik service said.
Criminals track users' purchases on marketplaces and specialized websites.
The fraudulent scheme works as follows. The potential victim, for example, is interested in rare medical equipment or car parts. Having studied the list of viewed products, the criminal contacts them under the guise of a private seller.
The marketplace customer is offered the desired product at a low price. They are persuaded to make a prepayment via a special link that leads to a phishing site. Ultimately, the victim loses money and is left without the purchase.
