The electronic warfare system was used against the US Navy's P-8 Poseidon aircraft

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a video of the destroyed Cobra V8 electronic warfare system during an airstrike on a military facility in the Khuzestan province of Iran. It is believed that Russian technologies were used in the creation of this EW system, Defence blog writes.

Cobra V8 is a localized version of the Russian electronic warfare system 1RL257 "Krasukha-4". It was identified by one of the foreign OSINT analysts [Open Source Intelligence — editor's note www1.ru].

The expert claims that several Cobra V8 systems were located at a military facility near the city of Bandar-Khomeini even before the start of the conflict in the Middle East.

According to some reports, Cobra V8 creates interference and jams enemy aircraft radars at a distance of up to 250 km. The Iranian military used this system to counter reconnaissance operations by US Navy P-8 Poseidon patrol aircraft over the Persian Gulf.

Officials in Iran and Russia have not confirmed that Russian specialists helped develop Cobra V8.

About the "Krasukha-4" system

The 1RL257 Krasukha-4 EW station is designed to counter the onboard radars of the conditional enemy's aircraft. Open sources indicate that the range of the system is up to 300 km. The platform was developed by specialists from VNII Gradient (Rostov-on-Don), and its production has been established at the Bryansk Electromechanical Plant.
