In St. Petersburg, shipbuilders at the Admiralty Shipyards are forming the hull of the future flagship of polar science — the research vessel (NÉS) "Ivan Frolov". This was reported by the press service of the shipbuilding enterprise.
The work is proceeding on schedule, and in parallel, the most important stage of contracting key equipment has been completed.
102 sections of the vessel's hull have taken their places on the slipway. Soon, workers will begin installing the foundation of the engine room, preparing a place for loading large-sized equipment.
About the research vessel "Ivan Frolov"
The contract for the construction of the scientific vessel was signed in March 2023. The keel-laying ceremony took place in St. Petersburg in October 2024.
The project was developed by the Nevsky Design Bureau by order of Roshydromet. "Ivan Frolov" will join the fleet of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI). It will be one of the largest research vessels in the world.
