A magnetic storm has begun on Earth: level G1

The source is a coronal hole on the Sun. Minor communication disruptions and effects on well-being are possible

Today, March 13, specialists from the Institute of Applied Geophysics recorded a weak magnetic storm on Earth, corresponding to level G1 on a scale of five indicators, where G5 is "extremely strong" and G1 is "weak."

The cause of the current events is a coronal hole on the Sun. Previously, scientists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences warned about the possibility of a prolonged series of such disturbances.

G1 level magnetic storms, as a rule, do not pose a serious danger. However, in rare cases, they can lead to short-term disruptions in the operation of power systems. Minor disruptions in satellite communications are also possible. In addition, weather-sensitive people may feel the impact of the storm on their well-being.
