MiG-29s of the Serbian Air Force of Soviet production have been spotted for the first time with advanced Chinese CM-400 supersonic missiles. Previously, it was believed that only China and Pakistan had such ammunition in service.
The development will enhance the strike capabilities of the Serbian aviation and add a long-range tool for engaging complex targets. If the integration is confirmed, Serbia will receive a very rare configuration of weapons for Europe.
As a reminder, CM-400 was created by CASIC Corporation. The missile was first introduced in 2012 as an export solution. The length of the CM-400 is about 5.2 m, the diameter is 40 cm, and the weight is about 900 kg. Two warheads are provided: a high-explosive warhead up to 150 kg and an armor-piercing warhead up to 200 kg.
The PRC declared the speed of the CM-400 in the final section up to 4.5 Mach (about 5500 km/h). The range is estimated at 240–400 km.
The integration on the Serbian MiG-29 became possible thanks to universal pylons and a wireless control system that does not require changes in the aircraft's onboard electronics.
