The ceremony of laying down a new Meteor passenger vessel of project 03580 took place at the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Vessels named after Alexeev. It is intended for the Saratov region and will be named after Academician Nikolai Vavilov. This is already the twelfth Meteor in the series, said Governor Roman Busargin.

The vessel will run on the Saratov — Khvalynsk route. Its delivery will be a new stage in the development of river transportation in the region and will allow opening additional destinations.

High-speed communication on the Volga was revived after 30 years on the initiative of the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. With his support, the region has already received five Valdai hydrofoil vessels.

In the past navigation, the first two Valdai vessels, Yuri Gagarin and Pyotr Stolypin, began to operate on the river. During the season, they transported about 28 thousand passengers on the route Saratov — Marx — Voskresenskoye — Volsk — Balakovo. At the end of December, the third vessel, General Panfilov, was delivered to the region. The fourth Valdai, Politruk Klochkov, has already been assembled and will go on sea trials with the opening of navigation. The fifth vessel, which will be named in honor of pilot Viktor Talalikhin, is currently being manufactured in Nizhny Novgorod.
