Restoration work on the building of the former aviation college will begin in Saratov in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2027. After restoration, it will house the Faculty of Robotics and Unmanned Systems as part of the Polytechnic College — Lyceum-Internat No. 64. This is reported in the Telegram channel «Volodin. Saratov».
The building has been abandoned for many years and is, according to available data, in poor condition. Part of the territory has the status of a regional cultural heritage site. Funding has been attracted from extra-budgetary sources.
The placement of the faculty fits into the actively developing regional course for training personnel in the field of unmanned technologies. In 2024–2025, more than 1,600 schoolchildren and students of the Saratov region were trained in UAS programs, 17 specialized classes were opened in the region, and enrollment in specialized areas in colleges increased from 25 to 50 people per year. Local universities are conducting research in the field of intelligent systems for drones, including the detection of drones based on neural networks.
The infrastructure base for the industry in the region is formed by the SEZ «Almaz», the ASEDA «Petrovsk» and the Saratov Digital Technopark. There are no specialized zones specifically for UAS in the region yet.
