A large-scale modernization of six airports in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is planned as part of the national project "Efficient Transport System". This was announced following a working meeting between Deputy Minister of Transport Valentin Ivanov and the head of the republic, Aisen Nikolaev.
The program includes the airports of Mirny, Olekminsk, Yakutsk, Polyarny, Zyryanka and Nyurba. The works are planned for 2027–2030 and include the construction and reconstruction of runways, taxiways and aprons, the renewal of lighting, air navigation and meteorological equipment, the laying of power supply networks, the construction of perimeter fences with technical security equipment, as well as buildings for emergency rescue services and checkpoints with guard rooms.
Special attention is paid to the Zyryanka airport. The existing runway is regularly exposed to flooding and erosion, which limits the reception of 3-4 class aircraft and makes the airfield critical for year-round accessibility of the region. To reduce risks, the construction of a new airfield on a non-flooded site is planned, while maintaining the operation of the existing complex.
In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the airports of Olekminsk, Yakutsk, Mirny, Polyarny (I and II stages) and Nyurba, as well as overhaul 16 other airfields of the republic from 2025 to 2030. The total cost of the work exceeds 15 billion rubles.
The works will cover six key airports in Yakutia and include the construction of new airfields, the reconstruction of runways and aprons, the modernization of navigation equipment and emergency rescue facilities. Implementation is planned for 2027–2030, while maintaining the operation of existing airfields.
