The new units of the Paks-2 NPP are planned to be connected to the grid by 2031-2032. This was announced by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Péter Szijjártó.
Now it is 2026, the construction of such a nuclear power plant from the "first concrete" stage, in accordance with international experience, can take from five to seven years.
The foundation of the Paks-2 NPP was poured with concrete on February 5. This means that Rosatom's project has moved from preparation to the construction of the plant.
According to Péter Szijjártó, the nuclear construction is going according to plan, all sanctions restrictions from the American government have been lifted.
Paks-2 NPP will be built with two VVER-1200 generation "III+" power units. This is Rosatom's first project on the territory of the European Union.
