An Honored Pilot Believes That Saving Russia's Aviation Industry Lies Abroad

Oleg Smirnov Proposed Creating Joint Aviation Projects Within BRICS

Russia needs to cooperate with BRICS countries in the aviation industry and create joint projects. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with "Pervym tekhnicheskim" by Honored Pilot of the USSR, member of the public council of Rostransnadzor, Oleg Smirnov.

He recalled that not a single country in the world today builds aircraft independently. Half the world works on Boeing, while all of Europe and other countries work on Airbus.

We will not get away from having to act the same way. Yes, our contacts are limited right now, but there is China, India, and Brazil, which make their own excellent aircraft. We need to create some kind of consortium in this direction. Indians are considered the No. 1 electronics specialists, after all. This is one of the proposals, by the way — to unite BRICS countries for the sake of raising national aircraft manufacturing.
Oleg Smirnov, Honored Pilot of the USSR

At present, Russia is preparing for the certification of import-substituted versions of the MS-21 and SJ-100 aircraft; all procedures, as the Ministry of Industry and Rostec have repeatedly promised, will be completed by the end of 2026.
