Su-35 pilot saves a 3 billion ruble aircraft: how the landing without landing gear went

Russian Aerospace Forces pilot risked his life to save a fighter jet with ammunition on board

A military pilot of the Russian Aerospace Forces demonstrated exceptional skill by performing an emergency landing of a Su-35 fighter after a complete failure of the landing gear extension systems. The incident occurred after completing a combat sortie, when the pilot discovered that neither the standard nor the emergency landing gear extension mechanisms were functioning.

The aircraft was carrying four guided missiles — two R-77s and two Kh-31s, which greatly increased the risks during an emergency landing. Despite the threat of explosion and destruction of the expensive combat aircraft, the pilot decided to save it, calculating the trajectory and speed to minimize damage.

According to military blogger Kirill Fedorov in his Telegram channel, the landing was successful: the pilot was not injured, and the aircraft remained fully operational. In the near future, the Su-35 returned to service and continued to perform tasks.

This case became a striking example of the professionalism of Russian military pilots.

Su-35 (NATO codification: Flanker-E+ — "Flanker-E+") is a Russian multi-role super-maneuverable fighter with a thrust vector control of the 4++ generation.
