Russia plans to implement monitoring of all existing solid municipal waste (MSW) landfills using drones equipped with generative artificial intelligence, as announced at the exhibition on the development of autonomous transport with the participation of President Vladimir Putin. The program is expected to be implemented between 2026 and 2030.
For these purposes, the "Geoscan 801" quadcopter was presented, designed for photo and video monitoring of landfills, as well as for identifying violations of environmental legislation. The maximum flight altitude of the device reaches 4,000 meters, and the operating temperature ranges from -20°C to +40°C. The drone can stay in the air for up to 40 minutes and operate at a distance of up to 10 km from the operator.
The use of generative AI will allow automatic analysis of images and videos, identifying violations of waste disposal rules, and optimizing monitoring of the condition of landfills without the need for constant human presence.
