The task was carried out as part of one of the stages of the Navy exercises, during which the pilots performed a special flight to remote areas of the Arctic. The unique air refueling operation was made possible thanks to the high level of training of the crews. The total flight time was about 30 hours.

The successful completion of the task demonstrated the high capabilities of the Tu-142MK aircraft and confirmed their suitability for active use in any area of the Arctic region, including anti-submarine defense and surface situation control tasks.

Tu-142MK is a long-range anti-submarine aircraft designed to destroy enemy nuclear submarines and conduct reconnaissance. The machine was built on the basis of the Tu-95 strategic bomber.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the Il-78 refueled Su-24M aircraft of the Northern Fleet in the air.
