The Ministry of Internal Affairs has changed the rules for obtaining a driver's license

Among the innovations are the reduction of exam periods and the digitalization of medical certificates

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has developed updates to the examination rules for obtaining driver's licenses. The project is published on the regulation.gov.ru portal.

The practical exam after the successful theoretical part will now be scheduled within 60 calendar days, while previously this period was 6 months. The innovation will significantly speed up the process of obtaining a license.

In addition, starting from March 1, 2027, all medical certificates issued by driver commissions will be available in electronic format. The documents will be collected in a single federal register, access to which will be granted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This will allow those who wish to take the exam and obtain a license not to attach a paper medical certificate when applying through the public services portal.

Last year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs changed the rules for the practical exam, increasing the threshold of permissible penalty points: now the exam is considered failed with 7 penalty points, instead of the previously valid 5. New categories of errors have been introduced, for which 4 or 7 penalty points will be awarded immediately.
