New production of materials for LEDs to be launched in Russia

Ministry of Industry and Trade allocated 500 million rubles for import substitution

In Russia, the production of materials for LED crystals, which were previously purchased abroad, will begin. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia has allocated 500 million rubles for import substitution of LED heterostructures.

The state funding received as part of the tender under the code name "Luchesar" is aimed at developing technologies for creating highly efficient heterostructures. They are needed for LEDs in the visible and infrared ranges. In the course of the work, the MOC-hydride epitaxy method will be used, using solid solutions of AlGaInP and AlGaAs.

According to the technical task, the new materials must meet world standards, and the quality of LEDs will largely depend on the characteristics of heterostructures. The work is scheduled to be completed by November 21, 2028.

Currently, Russia is facing a problem: imported heterostructures are used for the production of crystals, since domestic ones are significantly inferior to foreign analogues in terms of their parameters. Solving the problem should affect the growth of the quality of lighting products and their competitiveness in the international arena.
