In 2026, Russia will lay down two new Project 677 Lada-class diesel-electric submarines (DES). This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy (VMF), Alexander Moiseev, after the keel-laying ceremony of the submarine "Velikiye Luki" at the "Admiralty Shipyards" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) in St. Petersburg.
According to him, the submarines of this project have become the mainstay of the domestic non-nuclear fleet. Currently, two more "Lada" submarines are at different stages of construction.
Contracts have already been concluded within the framework of the state defense order. At the beginning of next year, we will participate in the laying of these ships.
It is worth recalling that Project 677 submarines can dive to a depth of about 300 m and are characterized by a low noise level with an endurance of up to 45 days.
The "Lada" submarines are equipped with a powerful sonar system and the latest acoustic protection equipment. The main armament is high-precision "Kalibr-PL" missiles and torpedoes for striking naval and coastal targets.
